COVID-19 Update from Akilah Harris, PLLC (4/2/20)

It is safe to say that we have experienced the most emotional and intense few weeks of our lifetime. The impact of the coronavirus has affected individuals, families, and companies in South Florida, the United States, and throughout the world. We offer our sincerest appreciation to our clients who are first responders, healthcare workers, essential business employees or owners, state and local leaders, and others, along with their families, for battling the coronavirus on the front lines.

Like most of you, our firm is practicing social distancing during this challenging time and our day-to-day operations may appear a little different. Our office is open, and we are working diligently on all of our cases. We will continue to communicate with our clients by e-mail, telephone, and we will now offer Zoom video conferences for face-to-face meetings.

The goal for legal professionals across South Florida is business as usual. While Broward and Miami-Dade County Courthouses are closed to the public, family judges are committed to carrying out the “laws of justice.” They are conducting hearings by telephone and Zoom video conferences. We will coordinate with our clients to ensure all hearings run smoothly. Additionally, many mediators in Broward and Miami-Dade County are offering virtual mediation as well.

We know this crisis will pass. We will continue to monitor the situation over the next few weeks and we will update you of any changes within our law firm and the Broward and Miami-Dade Courthouses. Please take care of yourself and your loved ones – nothing is more important that your health and safety.
