Chantal has been living in the United States since 2014, after moving to Florida from her country of birth, Jamaica. It is common for those born in the Caribbean to experience issues regarding the spelling of their name due to their birth certificates originally being recorded in pencil. Because of this, Chantal’s first name was recorded differently on her various identification certificates and forms, spelled “Chantol.” This created legal burdens for Chantal that constituted the need for a legal name change. After legally changing her name, Chantal was able to correct the spelling of her first name on all of her identification documents.
